It's Christmas in November

Well my kiddo seems to enjoy the outdoors even when it's cold. She's fascinated with leaves - how they dance in the wind, how they sound when she jumps, rolling around in them, etc. It's cute in my opinion.

I mentioned in my last post that we're pretty excited about Christmas around here. Well, it's mostly me, but L and E have played along. We've been pretty traditionless here in our home, but now that E is getting a little older, we're trying to think of some to incorporate. Anyone have any special traditions they don't mind sharing?

One other thing that we don't really do around our house is buy a lot for Christmas. Mostly because we're not into stuff, and also because we want to remember the meaning of Christmas. But we do want to do something a little special, since we didn't get her anything for Christmas or her b-day last year (are we terrible parents?),

I know that we are going to fill her stockings with books. This kid is a book worm, which L and I love. In fact, once I timed it, and we read stories for an hour and a half - crazy, eh? Still, after reading "Goodnight Moon" for the millionth time, I decided it was time to expand her library a bit more.

Anyone have a favorite book that their kiddo loves to read? Taking suggestions. :)

Happy Friday to you all.

Do you guys have a Nativity scene? This year we're going to start a tradition where we read the Christmas story from Luke while we set up the Nativity scene. Other than that, we haven't really started any traditions either. Let me know if you find any good ones! :)

J *loves* books, as well. The first thing he wants in the morning is to read books. We go into his room to get him out of his crib, and he points to his bookshelf, and says "Books!" We end up reading books for at least a half an hour before breakfast, and sometimes go back for more books after breakfast, as well.

His favorites are: "Is Your Mama a Llama?," "Busy Doggies," all the Eric Carle books ("Very Hungry Caterpillar," "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What to You See?," etc), and any story that includes trucks. Sorry I can't provide the authors of the first two--the books are in his room, and he's napping. But if you decide you'd like to find them and need the authors, I can dig them up!

Have you considered joining a book club? I joined the childrens one and you can get tons of books for a pennies, you have to buy a couple after that but they always have great deals to make it worth while..
As for traditions, we always go out the day after thanksgiving (this one came from my family) to get our Christmas Tree, I am the BIGGEST fan of Christmas i love everything about it! But i am still looking for things that Z can really get into... So if you get any good tips pass them on!

Hi, B - thanks for the idea. We are planning on getting a nativity this year - great idea about reading Luke as it's put together.

And thanks for the book suggestions... E does seem to like Eric Carle, too, yet we don't have any of his books. Good idea.

J, we haven't really thought about joining a book club... hmmm... maybe that's something we'll look into. Generally I just try to buy used.

We don't have an apron for E, so if you would like to make one, I'm sure she'd love it. :) No pressure, though - the holidays can get pretty crazy!

As far as traditions that we are thinking about - the only new thing was celebrating Advent. We've never done it, so I'm not exactly sure how it's typically done, but we considered putting 25 slips of paper into a jar, and pulling out an item each day. It might either be read a Christmas story, or make cookies for someone else, reading scripture, serving somewhere, or just having some family time. Not sure.

Thanks for the thoughts!

i'm going to complain and say that owen will not take a NAP today b/c all he is doing in his room is reading books. the punk.

how bad would it be to take everything out of his room minus his bed? would that be like, a prison?

ohhhh brother!

(he likes almost all books. just not fabric ones)

its good to hear from you again! in my family (parents, siblings & spouses) we always pick a project from the World Vision Christmas catalog to support. Mom puts out jars (we do this in our homes too) and for the time leading up to Christmas (month or so) everyone puts in change and designated $. Last year we bought a well. We usually exchange names and everyone gets 1 gift and letters from everyone else and then we do the project. Its actually a lot of fun and helps us to keep in the right mindset

We love the CRV! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner about it. It's been really reliable, and it's more roomy than the smaller cars we had. And the trunk space is great! :)
